Church Music over the years has witnessed lots of changes in styles, forms, patterns, genre, etc. History has it that “Jubal” a biblical figure of the descendants of “Cain”, whose parents were “Lamech and Adah” is said to be the Father of music. Music, before the Renaissance period of the 14th and 16th century, was only for religious rituals but the European Rebirth of Arts had music leave the church, where composers were no more composing with religious themes but on secular subjects. To date, this phenomenon has been a reoccurrence. Secular music has been taking the lead in development while sacred, religious, or Christian seems to be catching up later.

In Nigeria, one of the major exports to the world is music. Nigerian Christian Music on the other hand has been struggling to define its sound, maybe carve a genre although the Afro-Rock championed by Frank Edwards and the Afro-spiritual Chant (the strings and cymbals with dirge music) is still developing, however, in the last decade, Nigeria Gospel Music has witnessed a robust growth especially, as Artiste individually, there are lots of International collaborations example, Nara by Tim Godfrey ft Travis Greene, International Featuring, example, William McDowell ft. Nathaniel Bassey, and Nigerian songs with International popularity, for example, “Way Maker” by Sinach which has over 200 million views on YouTube.

In closing the existing gap between the Music in the Church and the energetic Secular vibes, Prinx Emmanuel, an Abia-state-born, Port Harcourt-based Marketing Graduate also a Songwriter, Rapper, Producer, Sound Engineer, and Singer has, in the last few years, revolutionized the Church music. The energy in the song pushed it even into the clubs and other nonreligious gatherings because it is an everyday expectation for especially, those in their hustling state believing that God will not put them to shame.

Another distinguishing factor in Prinx Emmanuel’s craft is, his ability to create music with popular slang which makes his music, though with religious messages, pierce through any blockage and with the vehicle of Afro-beat, to reach the farthest point. Slangs are easy means of getting into the minds of certain demographics and this he knows and has employed in most of his craft.

Prinx Emmanuel is an embodiment of creativity, energy, and every other attribute every music star has. His live performance is another awesome part of his that keeps his audience spellbound by his charismatic and unique approach to performance; no dull moments with him. Just like Kirk Franklin in the 90s who thought of fussing Pop (popular) genres with the Black Gospel genre which has birthed the different sound in church music today, Tim Godfrey originate this in Nigeria and Prinx Emmanuel has taken it just to another level as this is not just another way of evangelism or making the music more comfortable for the non Church goer to understand and relate with but to develop and grow another sound that Nigerian Church will be proud of and indeed, Prinx Emmanuel has positioned himself as the new face of the church music in Nigeria.
